Prof Chikako Nishigori

Dr Nishigori is Professor of Dermatology and Head of the Department of Dermatology at Kobe University Hospitals. Dr Nishigori studied dermatology at Kyoto University Hospital and received her Ph.D. at Kyoto University under the supervision of Prof. Imamura and Prof. Takebe. After obtaining the thesis, she joined Prof. Kripke’s lab at MD Anderson Cancer Center as a postdoctroral fellow. She serves or has served on the board of several national (Japanese Dermatological Association) and international societies (international federation of pigment cell societies). Former president of the Japanese Society for pigment cell research, and present president of the Japanese society for photomedicine and photobiology. Organiser or co-organiser of several international meetings (5th Asia and Oceania Conference on Photobiology, Nara, 2011, International Symposium on Xeroderma Pigmentposum and related DNA repair disorders, Kobe, 2014, 3rd Eastern Asia Dermatology Congress, Seoul, 2014). She has authored more than 600 articles in peer-reviewed journals and more than 50 chapters in multiauthored books. Her major topics of interest are photodermatology, genodermatoses, skin cancers, pigment cell disorders. She has received “Edna Roe Lectureship” from the International Union of Photobiology (IUPB) in 2014 for her achievements on photobiology and “Seiji Makoto Award” for her work on pigment cell research in 2018.
